The B.A.E.F. today
For the academic year 2012-2013, the Belgian American Educational Foundation (B.A.E.F.) has provided fellowships to 98 individuals:
88 Belgian Fellows to study in the United States
9 American Fellows to study in Belgium
1 winner of the Alumni Award
The Fellows were selected competitively from a pool of brilliant applicants by a Fellowship Committee that interviews all candidates personally.

The fellowship awards include a stipend ranging from $15,000.00 to $40,000.00, the payment of tuition fees between $30,000.00 and $50,000.00, as well as coverage for health insurance. For the academic year 2012-2013 there are 65 awards in outright gift to graduate and postdoctoral Fellows.
In addition, 7 Belgian Fellows receive a Conditional Grant to study Business Administration in the United States. The latter awards are interest-free loans of up to $100,000.00 for two years of study.
Finally, Honorary Fellowships for 2012-2013 were granted to 25 students, who secured financial support outside the B.A.E.F.
The Alumni Award 2012 in the field of Social sciences was conferred in the amount of 5,000 € to a Belgian scientist from the Université Catholique de Louvain, for her psychological research regading the influence of "emotional competences" on people's well-being as well as the neuro-endocrine basis of behavior.
Individuals, organizations or foundations that subscribe to a Graduate or Postdoctoral B.A.E.F. Fellowship, carrying their name, donate $15,000.00 to $40,000.00 towards such goal. The B.A.E.F. assumes the balance of the cost of these eponymous fellowships.
The expense budget of the academic year 2012-2013 amounts to $ 3,830,446 with income from endowment covering less than half of the expenses. The remainder of the expenses is covered by annual gifts in Belgium and in the United States from Alumni, associated Foundations, private, public and corporate sources.
